When the opportunity comes along to photograph a wedding at the Inn on the Lake in Ullswater, you make damn sure you seize it. Accordingly to the couple… we did so in spectacular fashion.
We were asked by our long time friend Duncan to photograph his wedding with his fiancé Jennie. Needless to say, it was an honour. We arrived at the venue about 45 minutes before the ceremony started. We had a scout around to double check that the locations we wanted to do the photographs were still available before heading back inside and up to see the groom. The groom has spent the night before camping up in the hills before heading down to the hotel the following morning.
When we eventually met up with the groom, a minor incident then followed as we entered the room when the couples’ dogs managed to escape and head downstairs cause a small amount of havoc. That was quickly sorted and we then popped in to see our bride to be. After a few quick, yet amazing photos, we headed downstairs to for the ceremony.
For those of you who are not familiar with the venue, they had a lovely area outside to get married. Providing the weather is nice, it provides a beautiful backdrop overlooking the lake. The weather was perfect and the small wedding party of only 20 guests awaited the brides arrival. Finally the ceremony got underway and the couple exchanged their vows in front of their closest family and friends.
The photographs were beautiful and it really was like candy land for photographers such as ourselves. So many creative possibilities and most importantly, the couple trusted us explicitly to capture their day the way we do best giving us all the freedom in the world. After the ceremony we gave the new bride and groom chance to to take a moment and chat to their guests before heading out to do the couples photos first. Normally we would do guests shots first but as the canapes were just being served and the weather was perfect we wanted to make sure we got the photos.
As you can see, the couples photos are incredible. So relaxed and natural. There was no awkward posing or anything like that. Just calm, relaxed and casual… just what the couple wanted. We then headed back to do the group photographs but with only 20 guests it didn’t take long to get those done which again suited the couple and their guests who really just wanted to spend the day relaxing as much as possible.
We did head back into the lake though to get some shots of the couple IN the lake. Again… breathtaking. After this we did a few photos by the lamp before heading back up for the round of golf with the lads. Finally it was time for the cake cutting before the guests sat down to enjoy their meal and speeches to cap off an amazing day for us.
The photographs you see above were taken on two Canon 5D mk iii cameras using a variety of different lenses.
The couple booked our Basic Photography Package (due to the number of guests being low) which gave them one photographer for about 4 hours or so.
