Gemma and Chris’ Wedding Details
Tell us how you met…
“I was nineteen and had come home from university for the summer. I needed a summer job & applied to my local petrol station, so the first time I met Chris he was interviewing me!
He made me laugh a lot & we had our first date about a month after we first met. That was 12 years ago & we got engaged 5 years after that first date, in Aviemore, Scotland.”
What was your overall plan for the wedding? What did you want for the day?
“We just wanted a fun day with family and friends, for the wedding to be relaxed & for us to enjoy ourselves without worrying about everything going perfectly. It did, which was a nice bonus!”
Any funny stories from the wedding?
“We had so much fun but our time at the beach stands out for us. We posed for photographs & a dog ran out of the sea & shook water off itself right next to us. Luckily it didn’t ruin our shots or my dress!
My friends were paddling in the sea whilst this was happening & we had a sing song on the bus back to the venue, which was only 2 minutes away.“
How did you choose your photographer?
“We’re not from the North East so I started by doing research on my computer, just looking through wedding blogs to get an idea of work that we liked & who operated in the area.
We knew Chocolate Chip were the ones for us immediately, their website was the best I’d seen for both demonstrating their work & also showing a little bit about them personally & how they worked.
I liked that we could have a joined up video & photography team & they came across very down to earth whilst being experts in their field. We weren’t disappointed!”
How did you choose your venue? Would you recommend the venue to future couples?
“I came across Newton Hall on Brides Up North, which I’d subscribed to a while ago. There was a featured wedding on there & I fell in love with the venue straight away. I took the day off work & drove up to view it, it’s more beautiful in person. My friend who came with me cried when she saw it! Chris couldn’t come up due to work commitments, but I FaceTimed him whilst I was there & he agreed that it was perfect.
I’d definitely recommend the venue to anyone, it’s beautiful, classy & quirky & the team are fantastic, they’re absolute pros at weddings.”
Advice for other brides and grooms?
“Make a list in advance of things you’d like to keep from the day & give someone the task of helping make sure they’re put away for you.
I nearly left our placesettings behind which were stones with “bride” & “groom” on, which I hadn’t thought about at the time, but afterwards I was upset that I hadn’t kept them after the meal.
Luckily my mum had picked them up & passed them on to me a couple of days after the wedding. Little things like that can be forgotten in the build up to the wedding ”
The photographs you see above were taken on several Canon 5D mk iii cameras using a variety of different lenses.
The couple booked the Signature Combine Package which gave them two photographers and a wedding movie for the whole day.
