It’s rare nowadays that we get many “firsts” any more. Well today was full of them. It was our first time photographing at the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle and it’s the first time, as photographers, we’ve been left in tears during a ceremony for laughing so much. Why the laughter? Read on..
We arrived at Nick’s house in the morning to capture some photographs of the lads and Nick’s family getting ready. At the same time, we arrived at the Vermont where Helena and the girls were getting their hair and makeup done. We captured some really nice shots at Nick’s house of the lads getting ready, as well as some really nice shots with the car outside.
Over at the Vermont, we started with a few photos of Helena having her hair and makeup finished, and while the girls enjoyed their champagne, we got a few photos of the dresses. After this it as time for Helena to get herself into her dress, roughly around the same time Nick was arriving at the hotel.
Once the girls were ready it was time for a few quick photos before heading down for the ceremony. Now this is where it gets interesting…
Everything was going well but one can only assume the registrar was having an off day. It was just one cock up after another. Wrong names, names said wrong, vows said wrong. Everyone saw the funny side of it, and by the end everyone was creased with laughter. Afterwards, we headed outside for the group photos.
With the sun beaming down, we decided to take the photographs in as much shade as we could get to avoid guests squinting. We whipped through them pretty ricky-tick and then left guests to enjoy themselves before the meal. Speeches preceded the meal and after a lovely set of speeches, the guests tucked into their meals.
As the early evening was upon us, we headed out onto the high level bridge to capture some photos of Nick and Helena together. We prefer couple photos in the evening if there is enough light because you tend to find couple’s are more relaxed after they’ve had some food and drinks.
We headed across the high level bridge and back along the other side, capturing some lovely shots in the process, including some really nice sunset shots.
After everything was finished, we headed back inside where the band had already started playing for guests. After some dancing and fun in the photobooth, we still had one more trick up our sleeves.
As we were driving home back across the tyne bridge, we had the idea for a photograph so we drove back to the Vermont, grabbed our newlyweds and headed back out. We pulled up at the side of the road, the best man was on car duty, and we took a few minutes to capture an incredible long exposure shot of our couple with the light trails in the background.
We think you’ll agree, it was well worth the effort…
The photographs you see above were taken on a Canon 5D mk iii and a Canon 7D mk ii camera using a variety of different lenses.
The couple booked the Single Photographer Package which gave them one photographer for the whole day.
